Sip Your Way to Balance with Haus Paus Herbal Tea

Woman enjoying a soothing cup of hot herbal tea

There was a time when every morning arrived already heavy — office deadlines, family expectations, the quiet pressure we put on ourselves, and a low hum of everyday stress that came back no matter what we did about it.

Most people we speak to describe some version of the same day. It is not a problem to be solved once and forgotten. Life simply asks a lot of us, and we meet it as best we can.

What we can change is the shape of the day around it. A warm cup, made slowly and drunk without a screen in front of you, is one of the oldest and least complicated ways to put a pause in the middle of a busy afternoon. That is the whole idea behind Haus Paus.

Because everyone deserves a moment of pause.

Why a good cup of tea earns its place

Herbal tea is not a shortcut and we would rather not sell it as one. It is a ritual, and rituals do quiet work. The kettle goes on, the leaves open, the steam rises, and for four or five minutes you are not doing anything else. For a mind that won't settle, that small enforced stillness is often the useful part.

There is a second, plainer benefit: warm fluid. Most of us drink far less water than we intend to across a working day, and a well-made cup is an easy way to close that gap. Comfortable hydration, a warm drink after a heavy meal, and a settled point in the evening that signals the day is winding down — these are modest things, and they are real.

What we are honest about

Our blends are food, not medicine. They will not undo a week of poor sleep, replace rest, or stand in for medical care. Ingredients like tulsi, chamomile, ginger and ashwagandha have long histories in Indian and wider herbal traditions, and we use them for that heritage and for how they taste — not as a promise about your health. If something feels genuinely wrong, please speak to a doctor rather than a teapot.

Why we say caffeine-light

Every Haus Paus blend contains a small amount of green tea, which is there for body and brightness. That means we do not describe any of our teas as caffeine-free, even the evening one. The honest word is caffeine-light: noticeably gentler than coffee or a strong masala chai, but not zero. We would rather tell you that plainly than let you discover it at eleven at night.

Meet the Haus Paus range

We make three blends, each built around a different part of the day. Every box holds 20 pyramid tea bags with whole leaves, flowers and spices you can actually see. You can take one blend on its own, or take all three and let them carry you across the day.

Uplift — the energy ritual

Haus Paus Uplift herbal tea

Uplift is our morning blend, and it is the one people reach for when the alarm has gone off twice and the first hour still feels like wading. Green tea and lemongrass give it a clean, citrus-forward lift; ginger, black pepper and cardamom carry warmth underneath; tulsi, ginseng, moringa and amla bring the herbal depth. It tastes bright rather than sweet, and it sits well with breakfast or with a mid-morning stretch of focused work.

What's inside: green tea, tulsi, lemongrass, ginger, licorice, ginseng, lemon peel, mint, black pepper, moringa, cardamom, jasmine, amla and lemon.

Ease — the balance ritual

Haus Paus Ease herbal tea

Ease is the after-lunch cup. It leans on the kitchen spices Indian households have reached for after a large meal for generations — fennel, cumin, coriander, cardamom and ginger — softened by spearmint, rooibos and lemon peel. It is the blend to make when you have eaten well and would like to feel comfortable and awake rather than heavy and slow for the rest of the afternoon.

What's inside: spearmint, fennel, ginger, rooibos, tulsi, licorice, lemon peel, marigold, cardamom, cumin, coriander, green tea and lemon.

Unwind — the rest ritual

Haus Paus Unwind herbal tea

Some nights the body is ready and the mind is still at the office. Unwind is the blend we made for that hour: chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, rose petals and blue pea flower, with valerian root and ashwagandha for their long traditional association with evening rest, and vanilla and licorice rounding it into something that tastes like the end of a day. It steeps a soft, dusky colour and asks nothing of you.

Unwind will not knock you out, and it is not meant to. It is a signal — a repeatable cue that tells your evening it is allowed to slow down.

The Complete Ritual — all three

Most people who stay with us end up drinking across the day rather than picking a favourite. The Complete Ritual combo brings Uplift, Ease and Unwind together in one box — a morning cup, an after-meal cup and an evening cup, so the pause is built into the day instead of squeezed into it. It is also the simplest way to find out which of the three you actually reach for most.

Building the pause into an ordinary day

You do not need a new routine. You need three small anchors in the one you already have.

Morning

Brew Uplift before you open your inbox, not after. Ten minutes of a warm cup and a window is a better start to a demanding day than ten minutes of other people's urgency.

After a meal

Ease is at its best about fifteen minutes after eating. Make it a full stop at the end of lunch rather than something you carry back to the desk half-finished.

Evening

Unwind works best when it is boring — same time, same cup, most nights. The point is repetition. When the ritual is predictable, the mind starts recognising it as the edge of the day, and feeling wound up gives way a little more easily.

How to brew a Haus Paus cup

One pyramid bag makes one generous cup. Pour water just off the boil, around 90 to 95°C, and let it steep for four to five minutes for Uplift and Ease, and five to seven for Unwind if you want it deeper. Keep it covered while it steeps so the aromatics stay in the cup instead of drifting off the counter.

Drink it plain first, at least once. If you want sweetness after that, a little honey or a squeeze of lemon works well with all three. Each bag can take a second, lighter steep if you would rather stretch the cup than start again.

Frequently asked questions

Do Haus Paus teas contain caffeine?

Yes, a little. Every blend, including Unwind, contains green tea, so all three are caffeine-light rather than caffeine-free. There is far less caffeine than in coffee or strong black chai, but it is not zero. If you are very sensitive to caffeine, keep your evening cup earlier rather than right before bed.

Can I drink herbal tea every day?

Most adults can, and many people drink one or two cups a day comfortably. As with any food or drink, listen to your own body, and vary the blends across the day rather than drinking litres of a single one. If you are on regular medication, check with your doctor first — some botanicals, valerian and ashwagandha among them, can interact with prescriptions.

Which blend should I start with?

Start with the part of your day that feels roughest. If mornings are the struggle, begin with Uplift. If heavy lunches slow you down, begin with Ease. If evenings are when the mind refuses to switch off, begin with Unwind. If you genuinely cannot choose, the combo answers the question for you within a week.

Is it safe during pregnancy or while nursing?

Please check with your doctor before drinking these blends if you are pregnant, nursing, or giving tea to a child. Several of our botanicals — valerian root, ashwagandha and licorice in particular — are ones doctors often prefer to advise on individually. We would rather you ask than guess.

What do the teas actually taste like?

Uplift is bright and citrusy with a peppery warmth at the back. Ease is cooling and gently spiced, closer to a well-made after-dinner mix than a dessert. Unwind is floral, soft and a little sweet from the vanilla and licorice, with no bitterness. None of the three need sugar to be pleasant.

One cup at a time

There are many ways to carry a hard day, and most of them are unglamorous. Ours is a kettle, a good blend and five minutes you refuse to give away. That is the honest limit of what a tea can offer, and in a week full of noise, it turns out to be worth a great deal.

Start where the day is heaviest, and let the rest follow.
